ZDP Series Double Disc Refiner
What is a ZDP Series Double Disc Refiner?
The ZDP series double disc refiner, often referred to as the "heart" of the papermaking process, is a piece of papermaking machinery. Its main task is to physically process pulp fibers, laying the foundation for producing high-quality paper. If the previously introduced heavy impurity remover is a "purification guardian," then this machine is a "fiber conditioner."

What are the uses of the ZDP series double disc refiner?

In the papermaking industry, there's a saying: "Three parts papermaking, seven parts pulping," highlighting its importance. Its core task is to change the shape and properties of fibers through mechanical force.
Fibers fresh from the pulping line are stiff, smooth, and lack flexibility. If directly used for papermaking, the paper will be loose, porous, rough, and low in strength. The function of a double-disc refiner is to process these fibers, enabling them to:
unwind, cut, and broom the fibers: Utilizing the mechanical action of the grinding discs, the fiber bundles are unwound into individual fibers and appropriately cut. More importantly, the fiber ends are "broomed" (fragmented) like a broom.
absorb water and swell: Through mechanical action, the fibers absorb water and swell, becoming more elastic and malleable. This allows them to weave more tightly on the paper machine, forming a strong and durable paper.
Its working method is also ingenious:

Dual-zone refining: The core of the equipment consists of two relatively independent refining zones. The pulp enters the center of the refining zone from the feed pipes on both sides.
Centrifugal force: Under the action of enormous centrifugal force and feed pressure, the pulp is forced through the tiny gap between the rotating moving disc and the fixed stationary disc.
Adjustable gap: Operators can adjust this gap manually, electrically, or hydraulically to precisely control the shear force and pressure applied to the fibers, achieving different pulping effects. The refined pulp, after rigorous testing, is finally discharged from the pulp outlet.
What are the advantages of the ZDP series dual-disc refiner?

High efficiency and flexibility: A single unit can complete various pulping tasks from coarse to fine grinding. It can be used individually or in series (for higher freeness) or in parallel (for larger throughput) depending on process requirements, offering great flexibility.
Wide adaptability to raw materials: By changing the grinding discs with different tooth profiles and adjusting the pulping process, it can easily handle almost all types of pulp, including wood pulp, straw pulp, bamboo pulp, and waste paper pulp, making it extremely versatile.
Energy saving and stability: Compared to older equipment, the modern ZDP series has made significant progress in design. For example, the spline floating connection makes operation smoother; the optimized inlet and outlet design gives the equipment its own pumping capability, increasing the head. Data shows that the improved model can reduce power consumption by 4-7% compared to older disc refiners, and also has a smaller footprint.
Easy to maintain: The equipment has a compact structure, and the improved bearing support structure makes installation, commissioning and maintenance more convenient.
